HSE principles
Imtech has eight HSE principles. These form the basis of the HSE strategy:
I do it safe.... or not at all!
Before you start a job, make sure that you're aware of all the possible health, safety and environmental risks. For you, your colleagues and others involved. Before you start, investigate the conditions under which you have to do the work. Determine whether your safety and health, and of that of others, will be endangered in carrying out these tasks. And check whether these will impact the environment negatively. And if you don't trust it, there is only one possible reaction: stop!
I act responsibly... I report unsafe situations!
Those who recognise dangerous situations at work at an early stage can prevent accidents, simply by removing the risks. That is why you should correct dangerous behaviour and/or dangerous situations immediately and report these. Take responsibility. Prevention is better than cure.
I take precautions.... I use personal protective equipment!
It is important that you receive good instructions about the measures to be applied in the workplace and that you act on these. Step two is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Make sure that you know how to use and maintain your PPE; especially the first time. Follow the user manual and/or instructions for use. Use PPE wherever you need it and use it properly!
I promote order and tidiness.... I keep my work area clean!
Within Imtech order and tidiness are conditions for healthy, safe and environmentally-responsible working. A significant number of incidents are caused when materials are left lying around. The risks increase when several people work at the same time. That is why Imtech employees address each other about order and tidiness. Not just on the construction site, but also in the office or company car. Tidiness is important; it makes working safer and more pleasant!
I am proactive... I know what is expected of me!
Keep alert and above all take action if you see that something is wrong. Imtech employees stay motivated to do their work in an HSE-compatible way and participate actively with HSE improvement processes. You know what is expected of you and you take the initiative. You are proactive!
I respect my surroundings... I take care of the environment!
Safe working also means having attention for your direct working environment and for those around you. Think for example about the collection of solvents and other chemicals. Know what you are working with. Read instructions. Always close bottles carefully. Separate waste and take care with substances that are hazardous or harmful to the environment. A better environment starts with you!
I show integrity... I always keep my commitments!
Be reliable, stand by your principles, don't have a hidden agenda, do what you say and say what you do. We regard integrity as important at Imtech. Integrity also helps realise our goals in the area of health, safety and environment. Of course, we adhere to legislation, standards and procedures, but we go further and challenge each other if somebody doesn't keep to HSE agreements.
I take responsibility... I lead by example!
People follow a good example. If you see a dangerous situation, take the lead. Give a good example and introduce regulations. Is someone working in an unsafe way? Talk to them about it. We want to avoid accidents at all costs. Every incident is one too many.
