Europe’s largest cheese factory

Added on: 22/05/2012

Every year, about 17 kilograms of cheese is consumed per head of the Dutch population. The expansion of the FrieslandCampina cheese factory in Workum is therefore a welcome development, also because of the rise in Dutch cheese exports.

In Workum, in the Dutch province of Friesland, they know how to make cheese. This FrieslandCampina factory produces various brands of cheese. This summer the company will be undergoing a significant expansion. Once this has been completed, it will be able to produce 120 million kilos of cheese per year, making it the largest cheese factory in Europe. Imtech is responsible for all the technical solutions in the pre-processing area and the cheese factory. The tight schedule is a challenge, and also one of Imtech’s specialisms.

Butter
Imtech is increasingly developing as a dairy specialist. Recently, for example, Imtech completed the new VecoZuivel plant in Zeewolde and the expansion for Katshaar Zuivel in Coevorden. Imtech is currently building a new butter production line for Verwerkingsindustrie Vreeland in Zelhem.
