New ICT for 'Managed Motorways'

Added on: 27/07/2012

Smoother traffic flowSmoother traffic flow on motorways, less queues, reduced journey times and improved local air quality. These are the most important challenges facing the United Kingdom's Highways Agency. To achieve this goal, the Highways Agency has been calling for many years on the expertise of the English office of Imtech Traffic & Infra. With innovative traffic management solutions and traffic control, Imtech provides the most up-to-date approach to traffic flow.

Imtech does this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including system maintenance, for example, for the communication between the road-side systems and traffic control centres. This continued responsibility demands a robust and modern ICT system, particularly since the communication between the 16 English offices and the 400 traffic engineers in the field always needs to run flawlessly.

With these demands in mind, Imtech was ready for a new internal network, various new systems and even better operational procedures. Following an extensive selection process, sister company Imtech ICT emerged as the best option. It wasn't a done deal: probably because it is a sister company, Imtech ICT had to prove itself even more. 'Imtech ICT completed the job within the requested timescale and, really unusually for today, within the budget!', explained Tim Friedlander, IT Manager of the English Imtech Traffic & Infra business unit.
