Optimal traffic flow in Dublin City
Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, is one of the busiest cities in Europe and faces typical traffic management issues; restricted river crossings, on street trams, two main canals and O’Connell Street – one of the broadest streets in Europe. O'Connell Street, the main street in the Irish city of Dublin, is one of the broadest streets in Europe. A perfectly functioning traffic management system is needed to manage the traffic flow and achieve the objectives of less traffic congestion, less journey time loss, smooth running public transport and less exhaust fumes.
Less traffic congestion and journey time loss, smooth running public transport and less exhaust fumes. With a five-year maintenance contract for Imtech (Peek), the Dublin city government council is aiming to achieve high returns. Imtech will provide impeccable maintenance of the city’s traffic light equipment at approximately 800 intersections, most of which are linked to the Dublin City SCATS (Syndey Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System). The contract also comprises the maintenance of the fibre optic traffic communication network and transmission equipment, as well as 1,800 public roadside reflectors. Peek is also offering a repair service for the induction loops in Dublin's streets.
Web-based solution
Imtech will replace the existing error management system with a web-based solution which will be implemented via hand-held equipment and which will communicate online with the backoffice system. During the contract's first year, Imtech will view each street location and update the site configuration files using the electronic systems stated in the contract.
The Dublin contract supports the further development of the Traffic & Infra Division in Ireland.
